General idea:
Biovalorisation of CO2 by culture of marine microalgae. Supply of biorefinery raw materials to the green chemistry markets.

Description:
This project follows VASCO 1 project, which aimed to demonstrate the feasibility of biovalorisation of high-CO2 industrial gases from industrial activities in Fos-sur-Mer by cultivating microalgae in open spaces. The scientific feasibility study was conducted between 2011 and 2012 by IFREMER Palavas, based on an experimental demonstrator of 10 m2 using pure CO2.
Based on the results of this experimental phase, VASCO 2 aims to validate a new phase of development at the industrial research stage with an in-situ demonstrator of 160 m2 connected to industrial plant chimneys.
A next step, VASCO 3, is planned to validate larger-scale production with a demonstrating basin of 1 ha fed in CO2 by Fos-sur-Mer industrial plants.
