General idea:
In December 2016, Catalonia approved, by means of a Government Agreement, the creation of the Generalitat’s Maritime Action Programme, which aims to establish its own maritime policy in order to meet the challenges of developing the blue economy in a sustainable and harmonious manner, through the integrated management of sectoral activities related to the marine and maritime environment.

Description:
The objective of the strategy and of Catalonia is to fully develop the blue economy potential of its maritime space and to guarantee social and territorial balance, based on resilient, biodiverse and fully functional ecosystems that generate the highest quality services to society. This includes the priorities of science and innovation in all sectors related to the blue economy and how to carry out activities to develop sustainability and its participatory governance among the actors involved. Blue biotechnology is a priority and emerging issue.
