General idea:
Contribution to development of blue ecnomy: promotion of cooperation in the fiels of circular economy
Description:
Description: Microalgae can provide an alternative source of protein for animals and humans and also help to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere. An EU-funded initiative investigated the best ways of producing microalgae for CO2 capture and biomass production.
Aim: to develop a modular, scalable and automated biofilm reactor to produce algal biomass. Besides being commercially viable, this reactor will also enable CO2 capture from industrial emissions for the creation of high-value organic products.
Challenges/needs addressed: increasing amount of CO2, need to find alternative food sources.
Impact and usefulness: reduce thei CO2 emissions and produce valuable products.
Stakeholders: industry.
