Brief description of the organization’s activities:
Arhropotech is a spin-off of the University of Murcia with extensive experience in the field of arthropod biotechnology applied to sectors such as agriculture, aquaculture, the circular economy (e.g. valorisation of by-products from the agri-food industry), the management of natural spaces and the development of R&D&I projects in collaboration with other companies and/or institutions.
Sector(s) of involvement:
Aquaculture and fisheries technologies; Waste valorization; Food and feed; Agriculture; Bioremediation, ecosystem restoration, climate change mitigation and other environmental biotechnology; Circular economyYes
Role of the organization in the development and/or application of Blue Biotechnologies:
Arhropotech is a biotechnology company created within the University of Murcia, which contributes the knowledge and experience of its human team made up of a staff of doctors specialized in various topics in the indicated area of knowledge.
Skills and services provided:
Arthropotech is a technology-based company specializing in a biotechnological approach to the study of arthropods, combining basic and applied science in the study of these species from different perspectives, primarily in the application of cutting-edge molecular biology tools to generate knowledge that can be used in the insect farming sector.
Specifically, Arthropotech aims to apply biotechnological tools to resolve both theoretical and applied issues related to arthropods. The technologies and services offered include:
– Life cycle studies of arthropod species and other organisms
– Application of metabarcoding and DNA barcoding techniques to identify species
– Characterization and evaluation of the microbiota of terrestrial and aquatic organisms
– Determination using molecular tools of the origin of pest species and species of invasive insects and other arthropods
– Studies of population structure and population genetics
– Application of genetic tools for the management and control of insect and other arthropod pests, agriculture, aquaculture and forestry
– Assessment of alternatives based on insects to reduce the carbon footprint and promote the circular economy in the valorisation of agri-food by-products
Needs in terms of research, innovation, development, and/or application of blue biotechnologies:
Our needs as a biotechnology company are related to the search for companies and/or institutions interested in the development and application of our services and experience in the selected sectors
