Brief description of the organization’s activities:
The mission of the Department of Environmental Engineering is to produce talented and creative Environmental Engineers, to provide research that promotes the science of Environmental Engineering and to offer know-how that serves society. In particular, it contributes:

1) training scientists capable of contributing to the measurement, monitoring, evaluation and treatment of problems caused by human activity, when they create alterations and changes in the environment.
2) creating an interdisciplinary research environment for the development of innovative and effective technologies addressing the current major environmental challenges.
3) the provision of environmental services to society, the state and industries for sustainable development.
4) research and innovation that will respond to critical national and global environmental problems and contribute to the United Nations action to highlight the rising Nature-Based Solutions, Green Infrastructure and Ecological Engineering in the context of a sustainable and circular economy.

Role of the organization in the development and/or application of Blue Biotechnologies:
The Department of Environmental Engineering at IHU, through its comprehensive research activities, promotes the sector of biotechnology by developing sustainable materials, enhancing environmental protection methods, advancing knowledge on the impacts of climate change and hydrodynamic processes and supporting practical applications in environmental and biotechnological engineering.

1) Offers high quality education at undergraduate and postgraduate level in order to offer strong scientific background, know-how and skills to its graduates.
2) Prepares well trained Environmental Engineers, who will be able to evaluate, take and implement decisions, and constantly evolve into a wide range of activities to become competitive in the challenges of the era in a rapidly technologically and scientifically developing society.
3) It promotes research and innovation with the aim of transferring knowledge to cutting-edge areas, the evolution of the science of the Mechanical Environment and the expansion of its fields of application.
4) Seeks to recognize excellence by encouraging, strengthening and rewarding the achievements of the members of the university community in teaching and research.
5) Enhances outward orientation by promoting partnerships and actions publicizing the achievements of the Department of Environmental Engineers at local, national and international level.
